Marijuana smell at the U.S. Open: A mystery that may never be solved

The U.S. Open has been plagued by a pungent marijuana smell at Court 17, an outer court that has become notorious among players for its distinctive, unmistakable odor.

The exact source of the smell remains a mystery, but the USTA has ruled out the possibility that it is coming from the stands of the court. Security staffers have also said that they have not seen anyone smoking marijuana inside the court.

Some fans believe that the smell is coming from Corona Park, which is located just outside the gates of Court 17. Others believe that it is coming from the nearby neighborhood.

Whatever the source, the smell has been a distraction for players. Eighth-seeded Maria Sakkari complained about the smell during her first-round loss on Monday, and Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova said she smelled it during her match on Tuesday.

The USTA has said that it is taking the issue seriously and is working to find the source of the smell. However, it is possible that the mystery may never be solved.

In the meantime, players and fans will have to learn to live with the smell, or try to ignore it.
